Somerset County Women’s League division three south: Crewkerne Rangers Ladies 1, Wellington Ladies 2

This match saw both teams looking to bounce back from heavy defeats in their opening fixture.

From the first whistle, both sides showed strong attacking intent, but it was Wellington who took the early lead.

Player-manager Ash Grabham-White netted the opener around the15th minute, assisted by Tash Hole, who made her return after being sidelined last season due to a nasty injury.

Starting out of position in defence, Tash made a brilliant run forward, threading the ball through to Ash, who finished expertly to put Wellington ahead.

With new-found confidence, Wellington pushed their defence higher up the pitch, adopting an aggressive, attacking style.

Chloe Walker had several shots on target after some impressive solo runs through the middle, but they were comfortably saved by Crewkerne’s keeper. She came closest when a one-on-one opportunity saw her shot hit the crossbar before being cleared by the opposition defence.

Adele Bamford also had a couple of strong runs but was forced off in the 42nd minute after a collision with the Crewkerne keeper, resulting in a leg injury.

After Adele was helped off the field, Charlotte Holder and Lucy Troake came on, and Wellington went into half-time with a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, Wellington continued their pressure with fresh legs on the pitch. Charlotte Holder provided the assist for Tash Hole’s well-taken goal, extending Wellington’s lead.

However, there were times when Wellington were slow to close down the ball. One crucial moment came from a well-defended corner, which left Wellington exposed with all players caught in the attacking half.

Crewkerne’s striker took advantage of the open space, making a free run from the halfway line for a one-on-one with keeper Grace Keen.

Despite some defensive lapses, Wellington held on to secure the win.

Player of the Match went to Tash Hole, who contributed a goal, an assist, and celebrated her birthday with a standout performance.

Next up, Wellington Ladies face Combe St Nicholas away on October 6th.
