Our newly formed U12s United side kicked off their season with an unfortunate 3-1 defeat by Minehead Eagles at Dobree Park.
The scoreline didn’t really reflect a game which saw the boys create many chances at the opposition goal.
The first half saw them go 3-0 as Minehead capitalised on small mistakes.
It was not for the lack of trying by Wellington who got through on goal three or four times with one effort hitting the post.
The second half saw Wellington dominate with some great attacking football, going through on goal five or six times.
Some great link-up play finally saw Harry Newstead pull one back, assisted by Blake Mead.
Manager Steve Newstead said: “I’m so proud of the lads – for some of them this was their first ever competitive match. Good times ahead”
Coach Richard Upham added: “I couldn’t ask for more from the boys – they all played their hearts out in a match which could have gone either way.
Congratulations to Leo Upham (pictured below) for being named man-of-the-match by the opposition coach.
A big thank you to kit sponsor Joe Conway from Conway Cladding Ltd.
