It was another busy Saturday for our Wildcats girls with pride of place going to the U14s who made it seven consecutive wins to go top of their table.

Here’s the full round-up:

Wildcats U11s played a strong Martock side and the game saw both teams battling hard in the centre of the field.

Playing up the slope in the first half, Wildcats began to edge ahead, taking more possession and winning more battles in the middle.

It was no surprise when they took the lead with an interception and pass from Hetty H saw Lola R find the back of the net for the only goal of the game.

With fresh legs on for the second half, Martock started coming back into the contest, moving the ball from defence to attack, only to find the Wildcat defenders and goalkeeper in good form throughout the game, including player-of-the-day Summer H (pictured) who ran her socks off.

It was Wildcats’ first back-to-back wins, showing how they have improved with both their teamwork and skill during the season.

Wildcats U12s faced North Curry again following last week’s 1-1 draw.

The game kicked off with Wildcats taking full control, creating chances from the start.

The deadlock was broken after ten minutes when Bella W picked up the ball on the edge of the area, taking on and beating the defender to smash her shot into the top corner.

Wildcats continued to dominate and soon Summer O found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a beautiful pass from Scarlett H, converting the chance with confidence to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Five minutes into the second half, Peyton A launched a ball over the top, and Amelia S chased it down, forcing a mistake from a North Curry defender who accidentally put the ball into her own net.

The rest of the game was played out with no alarms, concluding with a 3-0 Wildcats victory.

Mary H (pictured with manager Aaron Adams) earned player-of-the-match for her outstanding performance in the centre of the pitch, winning tackles and controlling the game.

Despite losing 3-1 to Wessex Youth, Wildcats U13s produced their best performance so far.

They showed some brilliant teamwork, skill and all-round team improvement in the game.

Wessex Youth started strongly, taking more control and scoring early with their only chance of the half.

With the ball at their feet, Wildcats continued playing some good football, pushing for an equaliser before halftime. Their determination saw a cross from Faith D find London A, making it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half started in the same fashion with Wessex quick from the off, netting their second of the day.

Wildcats continued finding space, passing the ball smoothly between each other and creating some good chances, but were unfortunate not to even the scoring in a closely fought game.

Wessex were lucky to score their third and final goal of the game, which seemed to put a spring in Wildcats’ step, seeing London A hit narrowly over the bar in the closing seconds of the match.

Player-of-the-day went to London A for a superb performance.

Second-placed Wildcats U14s welcomed unbeaten Berrow in a top-of-the-table clash.

The game started evenly with both teams using the pitch to create opportunities and being unfortunate not to find that finishing touch.

Wildcats eventually found their stride, finding Emilia S in space to strike superbly for her 25th of the season. Berrow began causing some problems, eventually equalising.

After making changes, sharp footwork by Darcy C created an excellent through ball for Emilia S to score again and make it 2-1 at half-time.

The second half saw Wildcats indebted to their keeper Sophie W, who put her body on the line throughout and was unlucky not to stop Berrow’s equaliser after some continued pressure.

With 15 minutes left, Wildcats’ determination saw them pushing to take the lead, with some hard-fought battles in the centre of the park.

It was no surprise when, after a team effort, a rebounded shot saw Faith NH in space to calmly dispatch the winning goal.

This saw Wildcats go top of the table, with seven consecutive wins – true testament to their determination and teamwork.

Keeper Sophie W (pictured with manager Jamie Webber) was named player-of-the-day for an outstanding performance in goal.

The proverbial ‘game of two halves’ saw Wildcats U16s go down 6-1 at home to Minehead after showing great character after the break.

In the first half, Wildcats were always under pressure from Minehead who scored their goals at regular intervals to lead 5-0 at the break.

In between Minehead’s goals, Wildcats did create some half-chances of their own. Often starting in midfield from Milly Howe and using the pace of Orlaith Colegate, they were able to get behind the Minehead defence, but unable to get a telling ball into the box for their strikers to attack.

Wildcats made a slight change to their formation in the second half, and they were able to reduce the space in midfield for Minehead to exploit.
This meant Wildcats’ fullbacks, Tori Smith and Florence Self, had a lot of balls to defend which they did excellently.

Katie Selley, who had an outstanding second half, made a number of headed clearances, while keeper Jasmine Simmons made two fine saves to keep Minehead out.

With six minutes to go, Wildcats hit back Lola Hamlyn controlling a Selley free kick superbly, before running past her defender and slotting home.

There was still time for Minehead to level the second half scoring which they did with the final play of the game.

Wildcats’ player-of-the-match was Kelsie Smith U16s (pictured with teammate Ella Davis) although the whole team should be extremely proud of their display and will look to take this into their next game away to Pen Mill.
