Somerset County Women’s League: Banwell Ladies v Wellington Wildcats Ladies – abandoned
Our Wildcats Ladies’ match yesterday (Sunday, December 15th) was abandoned with 17 minutes remaining due to a double leg fracture sustained by a Banwell player.
Banwell were leading 2-1 at the time with the player being injured in the act of scoring. Everyone at Wellington AFC wishes her a full and speedy recovery.
Wildcats were limited to a number of half-chances in attack with their back four called into action more than they would have preferred at the other end.
Banwell took the lead from the penalty spot on 40 minutes after their striker was brought down in the box .
Wildcats came out for the second half with determination to keep their unbeaten run intact and had the majority of territory and possession, but it wasn’t until the 67th minute that they grabbed their deserved equaliser withLeah Morrell finishing an excellent move.
This should have been the catalyst for Wildcats to push on, but moments later the referee brought proceedings to a halt with the ball in the Wildcats goal and a Banwell player in significant pain on the grass.
Team: Bianca Hamlyn, Bryony Sellick, Emily Ayers, Tenika Goss, Grace Winter, Robyn Stockman, Charlotte Ayers, Grayson Kennard, Imogen Edmondston-Low, Leah Morrell, Ebony Sellick. Substitutes: Christina Seaborne, Milly Howe (used).
