Our United U12 boys started the new Chairman’s Cup with defeat away to Galmington Dragons Hawks.
Wellington started slowly, conceding within a minute of kick-off and then another within a couple of minutes.
Heads went down and the boys didn’t really seem like they wanted the ball. This continued through the first half with it ending 5-0 at the break.
The second half started with a bit of belief instilled into the boys. They came out fighting and applying pressure, winning first and second balls and some great link up play saw the visitors through on goal a number of times.
Sonny Rich capitalised on one opportunity, finding the back of the net at 40 minutes assisted by Leo Upham.
Wellington kept on fighting only to concede a controversial free kick which was blasted into the net by the hosts. Still fighting, some more great link up play moving forward saw the visitors through on goal a few more times but they unable to capitalise with the game ending 6-1 to the hosts.
Manager Steve Newstead said: “The second half of the game showed what the boys are capable of it’s now our job to maintain that consistency.”
Coach Richard Upham said “I’m happy with the result against a team from the division above.”
Man-of-the-match was Sonny Rich.
