It was another busy Saturday for our Wildcats girls and here are all the reports.

Wildcats U11s played a tough game against a strong Wedmore side.

U11s – Hetty H.

Wedmore created pressure from the off, finding Maria G and Bea D working resolutely in defence.

Wildcats took on some fantastic battles in the middle, fighting for every challenge while creating some chances of their own and they were unfortunate not to take the lead.

Wedmore got the first breakthrough when a well taken corner was neatly volleyed into the back of the net.

The game carried on ebbing and flowing with both sides having chances before Wedmore doubled their lead with a breakaway finish after a full stretch from stand-in goalkeeper Georgie R.

The second half followed the same pattern with both teams playing confidently.

Despite Wildcats having a lot of possession they were unfortunate not to break through the strong Wedmore side, who extended their lead with a through ball, neatly nestled in the far corner, making it 3-0.

Player-of-the-match went to Hetty H for her continued pressure and drive to win every ball.

A special mention goes to a stand out performance in goal by Georgie R, who stood in at the last-minute with usual goalkeeper Remi S breaking and dislocating her finger at training – all at Wildcats wish her a speedy recovery.

Wildcats Under 12s braved the cold during their away match against Bishops Lydeard, who were sitting at the top of the league.

U12s – Stuart Sutton with Amelia S.

As anticipated, the game began with a nervous energy, both teams fiercely contesting every inch of the pitch.

Amelia W, Peyton A and Evelyn S put out a strong performance in defence, effectively neutralising every threat posed by Lydeard.

As half-time approached, both teams struggled to create clearcut chances with most of the play battled out in the middle of the park.

The second half saw an improvement for Wildcats, with player-of-the-match Amelia S taking charge to apply consistent strong pressure on the Lydeard defence.

Despite their best efforts, Wildcats couldn’t find the crucial goal both the players and spectators were anticipating.

After a highly competitive match showcasing the talents of both teams, the game concluded in a 0-0 draw.

Wildcats U13s played away to Bishops Lydeard in their penultimate match of the season.

U13s – Pete Winter with Casey V.

The game started at a fast pace with Lydeard taking possession from the off, only to be met with a resilient Wildcats defence and midfield.

Unfortunately, Wildcats went down 1-0 after some excellent play from the home side. The girls picked themselves up, passing the ball confidently around the pitch.

However, they were caught out on a counter attack which saw Lydeard double their lead.

The second half started with some pace as Wildcats created space to move the ball towards the opposition goal. Brilliant play from Anya S and player-of-the-match Casey V, where they met a fierce Lydeard defence who cleared down the line.

However, they in turn met a determined Georgie L who made some great tackles, making it difficult for Lydeard attackers to break through.

Although it was another defeat, all the girls played their hearts out and kept their heads up until the end. Full-time: 7-0.

Wildcats U14s played away to Wincanton in the harshest conditions they’ve encountered so far on a cold and wet morning.

U14s – Georgia Purdy with Isla C.

Wildcats started brightly and were unfortunate not to finish. At the other end, Wincanton found the defence and keeper in fine form throughout the game.

Ultimately this proved the difference as Wildcats were able to continuously work out from the back and dominate the last 20 minutes of the half.

Emilia S opened the scoring, followed by Faith NH doubling the lead, then doubling her own tally with a potential goal of the season, beating the keeper from 25 yards with a dipping effort.

Sensing the game was there for the taking, aggressive forward passing from the midfield offered Emilia S chances, converting two of them for her hat-trick and making it 5-0 at the interval.

The second half was far tighter, with conditions deteriorating it became an attritional affair,

Wincanton scored a consolation goal but both teams worked hard in a very well spirited contest, ending the game 5-1.

The parents’ support was invaluable to the team and the players gave everything they could in a real team performance.

There were at least half a dozen player-of-the-match performances but Isla C pipped it for her discipline, positioning and ability to clear with precision.

Wildcats U16s welcomed unbeaten Minehead to the Court Fields School 3G pitch and, for 30 minutes, they were very competitive.

U16s Piers Colegate with Amy Morrow.

Minehead scored after ten minutes but, shortly after, Lola Hamlyn levelled for Wildcats controlling a fine Milly Howe pass before squeezing the ball past the keeper at the near post.

Wildcats continued to press and try to create chances, while at the other end Minehead scored three well-struck goals to lead 4-1 at the break.

Minehead scored two quick goals in the second half to end any chance of Wildcats fightback.

Two further goals came late on, before Wildcats had a chance to grab a consolation with the last play of the match, but the shot went just wide of the upright as it ended 8-1 to the hosts.

For Wildcats recent signing Frankie Tong was superb in midfield, while Florence Self at left back was excellent as Minehead found difficultly breaking down the right channel.

Player-of-the-match was Amy Morrow, who was superb in both attack and defence.

Wildcats finish their league campaign with two matches against bottom-of-the-table Pen Mill and one against third-from-bottom Huish, when they will look to secure some wins their competitive performances deserve.
