Somerset County Women’s League division three south: Wellington Ladies 2, Porlock Ladies 2
Our Ladies followed up their victory last week by drawing with the team who beaten them 11-0 earlier in the season.
The result marked their improvement under a new manager and with a virtually new team.
On pitch two at the Playing Field, Wellington started strongly but went behind after 15 minutes.
Shortly after, striker Jade Pope received a short ball from Izzie Carpenter and managed to lob Porlock’s keeper top make it 1-1.
Defender Charlotte Holder was force off with a knee injury just before half-time, leaving Wellington with no subs for the second half but they were determined to go back out and create more chances.
A ball down the left from captain Grace Keen to Ashleigh Grabham-White was the perfect opportunity for the player-manager to cut back in and make it 2-1 to the hosts.
Porlock took another opportunity to score, levelling things up and the last 20 minutes of the game saw lots of defending and counter attacking by both sides.
Wellington went a player down due to another injury but they were determined not to let Porlock score another and the game ended 2-2.
Player-of-the-match was Jade Pope for her goal, playing in two different positions and being strong in the middle.
The ladies hope both injured players make a speedy recovery.
