Our Wanderers U10 boys travelled to Monkton Wood on a crisp and sunny morning for an exciting contest against Ruishton.
Both teams showcased fantastic football, but it was Ruishton who started the sharper, using their pace and movement to get in behind Wellington’s defence. Their early dominance saw them score three quick goals, leaving Wellington with an uphill task.
However, the Wanderers showed great character and adaptability. In the second third, they made a tactical switch, sitting deeper and inviting Ruishton forward.
This strategy worked brilliantly as Wellington frustrated their opponents, winning key battles and using the space effectively on the counterattack. With confidence growing, they began to outmuscle Ruishton and created dangerous attacking opportunities.
The comeback was sparked by the returning Jack Jorge, who put in a superb performance, scoring an outstanding hat-trick. His movement and finishing were top class, proving to be the difference in front of goal. Jude Norman also got on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal, capping off a fantastic team effort.
A special mention goes to Harrison Thompson, who stepped up to play in goal for the final third. It’s moments like these that define a team, and his willingness to take on the challenge was greatly appreciated.
Every player should be incredibly proud of their performance, as they showed resilience, tactical intelligence, and teamwork throughout the match.
