Our U7 boys have become a real force in their age group.

Since settling into their current Lions and Tigers squads, they have played more games than the fixture list allows, through arranged friendlies from the Devon league, and have barely tasted defeat between them.

After putting an end to Staplegrove’s unbeaten run, they went on to beat Tone Youth convincingly as well as both qualifying for the final round of the cup.

Their latest opponents were a strong Wembdon side, whose coaches were very complimentary about the Wellington boys, saying they are the best team they have played against and that the coaches should be very proud.

Lions were up first and started off very well with an early lead. However, they soon found themselves in unfamiliar territory at 2-1 down and had a battle on their hands. Just before the break, Lions equalised and headed into half time at 2-2.

The second half was all Lions with some amazing passing, dribbling, and shooting. They secured the win with two more very well taken goals, but it could have been a lot but for some great goalkeeping.

The movement on and off the ball was first class – the team always have that extra gear when needed and this was a good example.

The Tigers’ coaches described their performance as ‘near perfect’ for a team known more for their skill than strength.

They were unrecognisable and top draw in every tackle against a physically bigger team. They out-worked and out-skilled the opposition with some great defending, passing, shooting, and goalkeeping.
