Our Town U15 boys faced stiff opposition in the form of Dunwear United as they played host to the Bridgwater visitors on Sunday.
Evenly matched throughout the early stages, Welly were full value for the opening goal of the encounter, Ryan M’s delightful through ball picking out Jack B, who chipped the ball over the United keeper on the ten minute mark.
But Dunwear roared back with a goal of their own to leave both sides level after just 12 minutes.
With chances at a premium for both sides throughout the first half, it was Town you looked the more likely to retake the lead.
Ryan’s effort on 30 minutes shaved the left hand upright, Sam A’s free kick just went over the crossbar, while Seb N saw his effort drift just over the crossbar on the stroke of half-time.
The start of the second half saw Welly look to build on their strong first half-showing, but a resurgent Dunwear had other ideas. Four goals inside ten second half minutes saw the visitors stamp their authority on the game.
With their goalmouth now under constant attack, Wellington’s George B stood tall with a couple of outstanding saves – including a penalty on 25 minutes – to give the home team a glimmer of hope and the keeper player of the match.
But two additional goals in the final 15 minutes of the match saw a well organised Dunwear side comfortably home, 7-1 winners on a day which started so promisingly for Town.
The boys are home to Hutton Rangers on Sunday in the county cup.
