Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter League premier division: Wellington Reserves 3, Colyton 1

Before a bumper crowd at the Carly Press Ground, Wellington Reserves completed a quickfire double over Colyton having beaten them two weeks earlier.

Player of the match Jack Bryant is pictured with Simon Richards, organiser of Rockwell Green/Cottage Inn reunion.

The game started well for the home team as they took the game to Colyton but could not really test the keeper.

They should have taken the lead when Alfie Barrett raced through and, as he held off the defender and the keeper rushing out, he put his shot wide of the post.

Colyton took the lead after 30 minutes after Wellington believed they had won a thrown in, but the ref overruled the linesman. From the quick throw, Wellington were still trying to get back and a visiting forward got a shot from the edge of the box which keeper Charlie Hawkins could only parry into the path of an onrushing player who knocked it into the net.

It was not long before Wellington equalised and it came from a good team move down the left and as ball was crossed into the box by Ben Evett. It evaded everyone, and as it ran loose, Ollie Ackland hit it first time back across the keeper.

Half time: 1-1

Manager Mark Owen could have not asked for a better start to the second half as Wellington scored after two minutes of the restart.

Player of the match Jack Bryant picked the ball up on the right and, as he cut into the box, he sent a low curling shot past the keeper into the corner to make it 2-1 to Wellington.

Both teams carried on creating chances and the game was getting spread all over the park but both keepers dealt with anything which came their way.

After 75 minutes Colyton were awarded a controversial penalty against Dylan Groves who had looked to have won the ball. The kick was hit low and hard to the right but Charlie Hawkings was equal to it and made an unbelievable save.

This seemed to give Wellington the momentum going into the final part of a close game and again Jack Bryant came up with a stunning goal.

As the ball was crossed into the box, it was half-cleared to the edge of the area. As Bryant turned, he hit a shot into the top corner to spark wild celebrations, both on the pitch and off it.

All the lads had to do was see out the game which they did for a fine 3-1 win.

The attendance was boosted by former players of the Rockwell Green and Cottage Club, who sponsored the game.

There was also a bucket collection in aid of the charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably.
