Wellington AFC’s Wildcats Ladies travelled to face Frome Town Ladies at Badgers Hill, hoping to complete the double after last week’s impressive 3–0 victory over the same opponents.

However, it wasn’t to be, as a fiercely contested match was decided by the last kick of the game, ending in a narrow defeat.
Captain Grace Winter, deputising in goal, delivered an outstanding performance and was a deserved player of the match, producing several fine saves to keep Wildcats in the contest.
The defensive unit worked tirelessly throughout the first half, jockeying the Frome attack effectively and restricting them largely to half-chances.
Wildcats’ best opportunity came in the opening period when Leah Morrell chased a long ball down the slope, reaching it just ahead of the advancing goalkeeper, only to see her effort drift agonisingly wide of the post.
The side also had to cope with a setback when Milly H was forced off for ten minutes after reopening an old wound, following a committed sliding tackle.
In the second half, battling up the significant slope, Wildcats showed great determination and resilience, continuing to frustrate Frome and limiting them to few clear-cut opportunities.
Just as it looked like Wildcats had done enough to earn a hard-fought point, heartbreak struck in the final moments.
A goalbound effort was brilliantly cleared off the line, but the rebound ricocheted off a Frome attacker and into the net, leaving no time to respond and sealing a cruel 1–0 defeat.
