Somerset County Women’s League: Nailsea United Women 0, Wellington Wildcats Ladies 0

Our Wildcats Ladies earned a hard-fought point on the road with a goalless draw yesterday (Sunday) — their first positive result at Nailsea.

Having beaten the same opposition comfortably earlier in the season, this encounter proved a very different challenge against a much-changed and improved home side.

Nailsea started brightly and almost took the lead within the opening ten seconds, but Wildcats keeper Bianca Hamlyn was alert to the danger, producing a composed one-on-one save to keep the scores level.

The remainder of the match was a tightly contested affair, with much of the play battled out between the two penalty areas.

Clear-cut chances were limited, but Wildcats grew into the game and looked the more likely side to break the deadlock in the latter stages.

Their best opportunity came on 75 minutes when Leah Morrell saw a goal-bound effort superbly cleared off the line by the Nailsea keeper.

Morrell also went close earlier in the half, flashing a dangerous effort across the face of goal.

Player of the match, sponsored by Mundy Veneer Ltd, went to Jayda S-W, who delivered an outstanding performance.

Her hold-up play and intelligent lay-offs were crucial throughout, marking her best display since joining the squad in early March.

Overall, a disciplined and resilient performance earned Wildcats a well-deserved point.
