Exwick Villa 1, Wellington 2

Our first team continued their unbeaten run of pre-season friendlies with victory over their Devon League opponents in Exeter.

Tim Legg’s side dominated the first half but only had one goal to show for their efforts at the break – a low 35th minute free-kick from Miles Quick (pictured left), which curled around the wall and just inside the post.

Exwick came more into the game after the interval but the Wellington defence held firm and the visitors increased their lead with a quality goal ten minutes from time – Mason Raymond’s dipper giving the keeper no chance. Mason is pictured (right)

The home side pulled a goal back five minutes later but Wellington deserved their third win out of four from another useful workout.

Our friendlies conclude with a trip to Ilfracombe on Saturday, August 29th, with a 2pm kick-off.

We then start the season officially on Tuesday, September 1st (7.45), with an Emirates FA Cup extra-preliminary round tie at home to Bodmin Town from the SW Peninsular premier division.

Although we have been drawn at home, the Playing Field floodlights will not be back up in time and so the game has been switched to Cullompton Rangers, to whom we are very grateful for their co-operation.
