Taunton Saturday League: Wellington A 3, North Petherton 6

Our A team came flying out the traps in this game and could have easily have been four or five goals up within the first 10 minutes but for poor finishing and some fine saves from the Pethy goalkeeper.

However, as cruel as football can be, the visitors went up the other end and scored with their first shot of the game. For the next 15 minutes, Petherton oozed with class, moving Wellington from left to right, and they found themselves 3-0 up within 30 minutes.

The next 15 was end to end but Wellington finally found their scoring boots with goals from Josh Stevens, Cameron Perry-Jones and Thomas Scarlett, assisted by Luke O’Hara, Nigel Letten and Jordan Sellick.

In the second half, Petherton took control with Wellington looking to try to use the pace of their three forwards to no avail. Sadly Petherton scored three more goals to clinch the points.

On a more positive note, the second half gave the current management the chance to give debuts to three new players.

It’s back to cup action this week as Wellington travel to Castle School to face Creeech Cougars on Friday night with an 8pm kick off.
