Our Under 18s will once again be competing in the Western Counties Floodlight Youth League this season, under the management of Joe Conway assisted by Andy Govier.

The aim is to bridge the gap between youth and men’s football, and to retain players who could otherwise drift away from the game.

The squad have held regular training sessions over the summer with good attendances, between 15 at most sessions, and an enthusiastic response to the mixture of fitness and skills development drills.

The team begin their fixtures with a friendly against Elmore in Tiverton tomorrow (Thursday 15th) with a 7pm kick-off and the league campaign starts next Tuesday (20th) with a home game against early pacesetters Welton Rovers, kicking off at 7.30pm.

The other teams in the league, who will be played on a home and away basis, are Axminster, Bishops Lydeard, Chard, Frome and Wells.

Assistant manager Andy Govier said: “We are really pleased at the lads’ attitude over the summer and are looking forward to the coming season. We know it will be tough because there are some very strong teams in the league.

“Our aim is to give local lads a chance to play football and hopefully progress to other teams in the club. We already have some who have made their debuts for the club’s three senior teams, and we hope this will increase as the season progresses.

“We would be really grateful to receive your support at our games and look forward to seeing you at some of our matches during the season.”
