Somerset County Women’s League, Division Two South: Combe St Nicholas 0, Wellington Wildcats Ladies 1

Our new Wildcats Ladies made it two wins out of two with victory at Combe St Nicholas this afternoon (18th)

The team are the adult section of our successful Wellington Wildcats youth section, predominantly made up of last season’s under 16s girls’ team but also from the current under 16s team once they have reached 16 years of age.

Looking to capitalise on their opening game success against an established Combe side, the Wildcats played down the significant slope in the first half and without creating many clearcut chances were always in the ascendency.

Robyn Stockman was always a threat down the right wing, likewise Ella Hartley on the left, and it was no surprise that it was this pair who combined on 25 minutes to score what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

An excellently weighted through ball from Hartley left the goalkeeper unsure whether to advance or stay, but Stockman had no hesitation and coolly slotted home from 18 yards for her third goal of the season.

A second almost followed immediately, but the keeper saved superbly from Halle Watlin-Arnold.

The second half continued in the same vain with Wildcats always in control, but never really testing the home keeper while, at the other end, Wildcats’ well drilled defence ensured their goal was never threatened.

The closest either side came to a goal in the second half was when Heidi Stucki headed wide from a corner on 81 minutes.

Special mention to Danielle Bond and Charlotte Mills who were making their ladies’ debuts this weekend, while Wildcats player of the match was Tenika Goss.

Next Sunday (25th), the Wildcats are home to Pen Mill Ladies Reserves (KO 2pm). With both teams boasting a 100 per cent record, this promises to be a great encounter. Support will be most welcome.
