Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter League Division One: Wellington Reserves 1, Lympstone 1
Our Reserves had to settle for a frustrating point in action-packed game on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon at the Playing Field.
Fielding an unchanged staring line up for the third consecutive game, the Tangerines started brightly, with two consecutive corners kept from crossing the goal line by the visitors.
In-form striker Luke Perry departed on 18 minutes with a broken toe, replaced by Oliver Nott into central midfield, with Rohan Poulsom reverting to striker.
On 28 minutes, a superb driven cross to the far post from the right by wing-back Jordan Sellick was headed home by incoming left wing-back Wesley Poulsom for the lead.
The visitors equalised from a poorly conceded free kick seven minutes later, with a high lofted ball into the penalty box which the impeded Tom Hyam spilled, falling into the path of a Lympstone player to pounce.
Playing towards the Monument in the second half, the Tangerines dominated proceedings with some strong approach play.
A strong case for a penalty was waived away, with Rohan and fellow striker Logan Sellick getting plenty of supply and it felt it was only a matter of time when the reward of the all-important goal would materialise.
Wave on wave of attack came and went, with substitute Clay Westcott having a great opportunity to finish a neat passage of play, but his shot was too high.
Hyam was called upon to make a neat stop on a rare attack by the visitors.
Sub Dominic Healey made a good impact with his speed and tenacity in central midfield as Wellington kept knocking at the door.
In the final minutes, both Logan and Rohan looked favourites to score, however the Lympstone keeper stood firm to frustrate all in a tangerine shirt.
Man-of-the-match, sponsored by JPM Body Repairs was Logan Sellick and the match ball sponsor was Conway Cladding.
