Toolstation League premier division: Wellington 0, Street 0

Wellington made it two wins and a draw from three successive homes games with a stalemate against mid-table Street at the Playing Field this afternoon (Saturday, February 25th).

Man-of-the-match v Street was defender Jason Quick. He received the award from keeper Rob Hall – currently recovering from injury – on behalf of sponsors R W Gale Ltd.

The Tangerines made three changes to the starting 11 which beat Cadbury Heath the previous week with Eli Collins. Alex Cherry and Nathan Byrne coming in for Glen Wright and the unavailable Jack Bown-Porter and Alfie Clark.

But, after their pair of victories, the game was never a great spectacle as the two young sides cancelled each other out.

The first half, in particular, was a difficult watch with no clearcut chances and far too many passes going astray from both teams.

And, while there was more action after the break, there was no end to the deadlock and, at the final whistle, a draw was a fair result.

Wellington used three of their subs in the second half and one of them threatened to score the winner with Wright seeing two headers go wide and an injury-time volley well saved.

At the other end, Street created only two real openings but striker Paolo Borges was unable to covert both of them against his former club.

The Tangerines, who stay 15th in the table, will be pleased with another clean sheet and now look forward to a trip to Ilfracombe Town – one place below them – on Tuesday night.
