Friendly: Wincanton Ladies 1, Wellington Wildcats Ladies 13

Wincanton Ladies used this friendly fixture to give some game time to their development team while Wildcats, missing several regulars themselves, took the opportunity to give a debut to Imogen Edmondston-Low who was stepping up from the U16s team.

Wildcats scored their first goal after nine minutes through Leah Morrell, and, as the scoreline would suggest, continued to score goals at regular intervals thereafter.

U16s captain Georgia Purdy doubled the lead, scoring from a tight angle, before Edmondston-Low finished off a fine team goal at the far post. Morrell then grabbed a second, before regular right back Bryony Sellick, playing as a makeshift number ten, scored her first goal of the season. Half-time 1-5.

Having not scored in junior football, Edmondston-Low ended her first game in senior football with a hat-trick, while Morrell scored four further goals for a double hat-trick. Tenika Goss completed the one-sided affair with two late goals.

A number of Wildcats could have earned themselves player of the day – Heidi Stucki was a constant thorn in the side of Wincanton, selfishly setting up her team mates instead of scoring herself, while Amber Finucane-Fenn gave an excellent performance in the centre of midfield. However for her six goals Wildcat-of-the-Day was Leah Morrell.

Team: Bianca Hamlyn, Bryony Sellick, Naomi Southcott, Tenika Goss, Grace Winter (cpt), Georgia Purdy, Amber Finucane-Fenn, Emily Ayers, Imogen Edmondston-Low, Heidi Stucki, Leah Morrell. Subs: Amber Perry, Ringla Tance (used).

On Sunday, league winners Wildcats will be looking to avenge their only defeat of the season when they play their final match of the campaign at home to runners-up Sydenham Rangers Ladies, ko 2pm. All support most welcome.
