Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter League division one: Wellington Reserves 0, Bow Athletic 5
The 14-match unbeaten run ended abruptly for our Reserves at Hemyock FC yesterday (Saturday, April 8th) as they also conceded the double to their more committed opponents, writes Nick Buttle.
With several players unavailable, the reshuffled squad fell behind midway through the first half when a direct free kick was fumbled by keeper Tom Hyam to gift the visitors the lead.
A couple of chances were spurned by the Tangerines who then fell further behind six minutes later from another free kick which was placed with accuracy inside the far post.
Hyam, who suffered damaged fingers, was replaced by Sam Carreau moments later.
Trailing at half-time, a re-evaluation and plan was put into place by Wellington which would hopefully yield rewards.
However, with the visitors quicker and faster to the ball as well as making more decisive decisions, they added further goals to take the spoils back to Bow.
Man-of-the-match: Josh Sibanda.
Wellington: Tom Hyam, Mark Owen, Jamie Fleet, Will Armstrong, Dylan Groves, Josh Sibanda, Wes Poulsom, Connor Noble, Oli Nott, Rohan Poulsom, Logan Sellick. Substitutes: Sam Carreau, Aaron Merry, Dan Goverd and Adam Watson
Next up, the Reserves host Teignmouth Town Reserves, again at Hemyock FC, on Easter Monday with a 3pm kick-off.
