Alex Pope has decided to join Tim Legg in stepping down as our joint first team manager.

Following Tim’s decision, he had held extensive talks with the club about carrying on in sole charge but has opted against the move.

Club chairman Mike Hall said: “This is obviously disappointing news as we had hoped Alex would build on the excellent work he and Tim have put in.

“As with Tim, we’d like to thank him for his efforts on behalf of Wellington AFC and wish him all the best for the future”

Mike added: “We will now be weighing up our options before deciding on our next move.”

Alex said: “I had been considering calling it time for some weeks, as I have ambitions to move up the leagues. “However, due to a fondness that I have developed for many people at the club, I wanted to take time and care when Mike asked me to reconsider.

“There are so many fantastic people at Wellington, it’s a real community club, too many to name them all.

“That said, I must mention Danny (Aspin), who always put a smile on my face after a game, whether we won or lost, and of course Tim who brought me in and was gracious enough to share the title of manager with me in our final season.

“The right thing for me to do now is to take a moment to reset and then spend some time observing matches in the Southern League and above to ensure that I am ready for my next opportunity.

“Thank you to everyone at WAFC who welcomed me and supported me over the past four seasons.”
