Our new first team manager Richard Cherry has announced that experienced defender Jack Bown-Porter will be his number two.

Richard has taken over from joint bosses Tim Legg and Alex Pope, having worked with them as a coach last season.

Since being appointed last week, he has been busy assembling his management team for the coming season in the Toolstation League premier division.

He said: “After having had a strong working relationship with Jack, I wanted him to join the management setup in a player-coach/assistant role and am happy to announce that he is on board.

“Jack and I have now had several meetings on recruitment, playing strategies, training procedures and management protocol – we are focused, and work is under way for the new season.”

Jack, who has played more than 300 first team games, said: “Richard is an impressive coach, whose CV speaks for himself, and we’ve instantly struck up a good connection.

“The opportunity to come aboard the managing staff at this stage of my career, at a club I love, was something I just couldn’t turn down.”

In addition to Jack, sports therapist Lauren Watts is continuing as part of the management team.

Richard said: “Lauren put in place some injury prevention strategies which helped the group hugely last season and has been hard at work planning additional methods of individual fitness and further injury prevention strategies.

“Her work is integral to any successes we may achieve.”

Richard also announced that Zack Bevan (below) would be working alongside them on strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, and injury prevention.

He added: “Zack is an experienced fitness coach with an Honours degree in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Gloucestershire.

“He is NSCA accredited and proficient in sports nutrition and injury prevention having worked previously work with elite teams in rugby league, athletics and basketball.”
