Vice-captain Grace Winter and goalkeeper Bianca Hamlyn scooped two honours apiece as our Wildcats Ladies rounded off their successful first season in senior football with an awards evening at the Beambridge Inn.

Following a seasonal buffet and speeches, each of the players were presented with their league winners’ medal, along with a participation trophy, before the main awards ceremony.

After a successful transition from right-back to goalkeeper and following 1-2-1 coaching sessions with Ian Nott, Bianca Hamlyn was awarded most improved player and also picked up the Peter Ayers Trophy for most industrious player.

Ebony Sellick, with 11 goals in 14 games, was presented with the top goal scorer award, before Julie Sellick received the clubperson of the year trophy for her tireless work behind the scenes. The goal of the season was Charlotte Ayers’ last minute headed winner against Bridport.

Grace Winter took home supporters’ player of the year, while she also received the players’ player of the year award. As a newcomer to the Wildcats, Grace Winter grew in confidence as the season progressed and was deservedly given the captain’s armband when Charlotte picked up a season-ending injury.

The final award of the evening went to Tenika Goss, who was the managers’ player of the year. She picked up five player of the match awards throughout the season and was excellent at the heart of the defence.

The awards were presented by John Sellick, head of our Wildcats section.

Wildcats played 14 league games, winning 12 and finishing two points clear at the top of the table. Four players played in all possible games – Emily Ayers, Tenika Goss, Bryony Sellick and Grace Winter.

They scored in all but one game, amassed a total of 25 goals, and conceded just seven goals across the campaign with seven clean sheets. This was the fewest goals conceded across all three divisions of the Somerset County Women’s League – testament to the hard work and determination of the defensive unit.

The Wildcats would like to thank their shirt sponsors – Anchor Services and Arnolds Plumbing and Heating Contractors – for their continued support.

They are looking forward to the challenge of division one next season and continue their preparations with pre-season training at Court Fields School on Thursday evenings (6.30pm-8pm).
