Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter League division one: Dawlish Utd 0, Wellington Reserves 4

After winning the first two games of the season it was back on the road for our Reserves for a trip to Dawlish Utd.

Wes Poulsom is congratulated on being man-of-the-match by Paul Noble.

Just like last week’s game, manager Mark Owen had players unavailable and again had to rely on having a strong squad to take 15 players on the trip.

The early stages of the match were even with both teams fighting hard in midfield and no one really threading either goal but, after 20 minutes, keeper Charlie Hawkings collected a back pass and proceeded to play a long ball up front for Joey Conway – making his first full start – to race through from 30 yards and he calmly liftedthe ball over the advancing keeper and into the net.

Wellington started to take a grip of the game with Ollie Nott and Connor Noble starting to take control of midfield and with Wes Poulsom making great attacking runs down the wing.

It was one of these fine dribbling runs that led to the second goal with Aaron Hawkings collecting the ball in the box to stunningly create some space to fire past the keeper.

With the game now under Wellington’s control and heading towards half time Ollie Nott capped a fine first half performance to fire home a well-deserved third goal.

The second half started the same as the first ended with Wellington still controlling the game and it wasn’t long before Aaron Hawkings scored his second and Wellington fourth.

With the team again being managed by Michael Owen again Tom Hawkings was away, he took the opportunity to give all four subs a run out with 25 minutes left.

Wellington really started to control the play and get a high tempo and soon had a chance to make it five from the penalty spot but Ollie Nott had his kick saved well by the Dawlish keeper.

Wellington had numerous chances to increase the lead but failed to convert these and Dawlish where lucky not to see a player sent off for a horrendous late challenge on the dangerous Wes Poulsom as the game headed towards full-time.
