Somerset County Women’s League division two south: Wellington Ladies 0, Burnham Ladies 3

Our Ladies welcomed Burnham to the Playing Field, looking to build on the momentum from winning their past two matches.

Wellington started well, looking dangerous with Steph and Tash heading the attack.

Rather against the run of play, Burnham took the lead on the half hour mark, and from then on Welly were on the back foot.

Some excellent saves from keeper Morgen kept the score at 1-0 going into half time.

Conditions were tricky and persistent heavy rain turned the second half into old fashioned slug fest.

Some cracking tackles from Charlotte and the tireless work rate of midfielder Adele kept the Ladies going and, with half an hour to go, the match was in the balance.

Welly pushed further forward in search of an equaliser, but sadly left themselves exposed at the back with a two on two, allowing Burnham to go clean through on goal and all but seal the win with a 2-0 lead.

A late third was added, making it 3-0 at the final whistle.

A really creditable performance given the awful conditions, and certainly not worthy of the scoreline.

The Ladies move on to Sunday, looking to bounce back away to Porlock Ladies.
