Wellington AFC’s Toolstation League game at Street last night (Wednesday, March 20th) was abandoned because of a serious injury to striker Ryan Brereton.

The match was 30 minutes old when the Tangerines’ striker was badly hurt in a 50-50 challenge.

As an ambulance was required, the referee brought proceedings to a premature halt.

It has since been confirmed that Ryan suffered a double lower leg fracture to his tibia and fibula and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.

The fixture v Street – already postponed twice because of a waterlogged pitch – has been rearranged for Wednesday, April 17th.

That adds to an already busy run-in to the end of the season for Wellington.

On Saturday, they are home to Oldland Abbotonians and the following Tuesday they host Saltash United – both sides are in the bottom five, along with the Tangerines.

Then, there are two matches over the Easter weekend – away to fourth-placed Bridgwater United on Good Friday and a quick rematch with Street at the Playing Field on Easter Monday.
