Taunton Saturday League: Wellington A 1, Norton Reserves 1

Wellington dominated the first half with man-of-the-match Will Hammond making his first start for the club and pulling all the strings in midfield.

But Welly just couldn’t find a way through, missing a penalty and several half decent opportunities, mainly through free headers from corners.

The second half started similarly except Norton began to come into the game more and you could just feel it wasn’t Welly A’s night. Welly huffed and puffed and out of nowhere a long ball from a Norton defender took a touch off Darren Mace for the lonely Norton striker to run through on goal to make it 1-0 to the away side.

Welly carried on in control but tried to up the tempo, which only made it more frustrating for the lads. There was 90+4 on the clock and, with every single player camped inside Norton’s half, Welly got the equaliser through a very good finish from Brad Holmans. Welly had one last attack which came to nothing and we applaud Norton for their resilience and hard work they put in throughout the game.

This Saturday we travel to Exmoor – with four players out injured and three away its going to be a struggle to get a squad together but those who do play will be itching to make amends for this result.
