Taunton Saturday League: Minehead Colts 2, Wellington A 2
Welly went into this fixture against a very young but strong Colts side who boasted a fair few Minehead reserve players, notably the goalkeeper who was by far the best player on the park for this game under the lights.
Welly dominated the first half and went in front through a Matt Holmes header from a rebound off a quality block from the goalkeeper for the 100th league goal for Welly since joining the Taunton league this season. Minehead won a free kick on the edge of the box and managed to squeeze the ball past the Welly keeper at the back post to make it 1-1.
In the second half, Minehead came into the game more and threatened with counterattacks and lots of pace down both wings. Welly continued to press though and, with a Wes Poulsom run to the byline, he crossed for Brad Holmans to score a header from three yards out under pressure. Minehead continued to use their pace and it pulled off with 15 minutes remaining with an equaliser.
Welly, knowing a win should see them finish third, pushed for a winner but neither side could find the breakthrough and so Welly sit one point behind Wyvern with two games remaining.
