Toolstation League premier division: Bridgwater Town 4, Wellington 1

Wellington’s old boys came out on top in the Good Friday local derby at Fairfax Park.

The Bridgwater starting 11 included no fewer than eight of our former players – and it would have been nine but for the suspension of their leading scorer Jack Taylor.

The home side took the lead after 11 minutes when young Patrick O’Halloran fired Jake Llewellyn’s diagonal pass into the corner on 11 minutes.

Joe Chamberlain missed a good chance to level soon afterwards and there was little between the sides for the remainder of the first half.

Town doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second period as Llewellyn netted from the spot following a foul on Ian Bellinger, but, just three minutes later, sub Tom Hawkings pounced on a loose ball inside the area to lash home and reduce the arrears.

Bellinger restored Bridgwater’s two-goal cushion shortly after the hour, nodding home from close range after a long ball had bounced over Mclean.

And another ex-Tangerine made it 4-1 late on as Sam Towler converted a rebound after Jake Brown’s shot had been saved.
