Devon and Exeter League division one: Wellington Reserves 0, Sidmouth Reserves 3
It was a disappointing final game of the season for our young reserve side as they went down to strengthened Sidmouth Res side.
Despite a recent resurgence in form, Wellington were way off the pace in the first half, finding themselves 2-0 down with both goals coming in the opening 20 minutes. Wellington’s chances were slim and they gave possession up too easily on too many occasions.
Sidmouth were the better team and had numerous chances to increase their lead but some good goalkeeping from Rob Hall coupled with poor finishing kept Wellington in the game.
The second half saw a marked improvement in Wellington’s all-round game and, but for a little bit of luck and some terrible refereeing decisions, they could have got themselves back into game.
The season in general though has seen this group of young players gradually establish themselves as a respected team. Their mid-table finish comes after a poor start to the season. Some reshaping and tactical tweeking was brilliantly bought into by this young blossoming squad, giving them an excellent second half of the season.
The whole club has commented on how they have improved and given the first team a bed of hungry young players from which to choose.
