Taunton Saturday League: Wellington A 7, Wyvern 3

Our A team went into this game knowing a victory would put them back on top of the league … and win they did.

With the scores level at 3-3 with 25 minutes to play, Welly freshened up in all three key areas, moved up a gear and managed to score four more goals to seal a vital success.

The goalscorers were Jordan Sellick (two), Rohan Poulsom (two), Brad Holmans (two) and Thomas Scarlett.

Manager Luke O’Hara said: “For me, this was as big a win as Wembdon away.

“When we played Wembdon, we struggled against long throws so, for two weeks, we worked on defending and attacking them and other set pieces.

Today we not only managed to defend well against some big physical lads – Sullivan Harlow commanding and punching clear several long throws – but we managed to score four headers in the game from crosses and set pieces.

“I’m very excited for the future of not only this team but the club.

“In this game alone we had ten teenagers involved. Special mention to two 16-year-olds, goalkeeper Sully and the returning Danny Nicholls after a broken collarbone, both putting in massive shifts with Danny winning the man-of-the-match award for his commanding display”

On Friday (25th) Welly A head over to Castle to play Galmington, kick off 8pm, and the management team will be making a few changes to give a much deserved run-out to a few lads who’ve not had much game time yet.
