Kevin Forrest has been appointed boss of our Under 18s after Mike Hawes stepped down as manager.

Youth Teams Co-ordinator, Colin Waller, said: “Kevin managed the players, who will form next season’s Under 18s, from Under 9s to Under 14s before Ed Chivers took over for the past two years.

“Ed will be assisting Kevin this coming season and training will start with first team – whenever that is!”

Mike Hawes, a former first-team boss and player, ran the Under 18s in the SW Floodlit League’s South Division last season with the help of Mark White, having himself helped Paul Pocock during the 1998-99 campaign.

But he said he had decided to step down as he felt the club needed someone from Wellington or Taunton, which was the main catchment area for players.

Mike added that last season had also “taken its toll” with 20 fixture cancellations for different reasons.

Chairman, Mike Hall, said: “We’re very grateful to Mike for all his hard work in challenging circumstances and wish him all the best.

“We’d also like to thank Kevin for taking on the role and hope he enjoys preparing the boys to make the step up into senior football.”
