Somerset County Women’s League: Pen Mill Ladies Reserves 0, Wellington Ladies 1

Wellington Ladies had already confirmed their final position in the league, but that did not stop them from putting on a great show for the last match of the season away at Pen Mill.

It was all Wellington for the first 45 minutes, with the away side creating chance after chance. Amy Sharkey and Ebony Sellick were both granted opportunities to put the Tangerines in front in the early stages, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

The bombardment continued and Zoe Armitage, who was playing in a new winger role, managed to bury the ball, giving Wellington the lead and grabbing her first goal for the club.

Moving into the second half and the home side were keen to find an equaliser but Wellington goalkeeper and Player-of-the-Match Hannah Worth had different ideas.

A series of amazing saves from Hannah, and excellent coordination at the back repelled the home team’s efforts and kept Wellington in the lead. It was an extraordinary team effort which showed real promise for next season.

The Ladies now look forward to their next midweek training session so they can get pre-season underway and begin the necessary work to make sure they get off to a flying start in the 2021-22 season.
