Toolstation League premier division: Wellington 2, Ilfracombe Town 2

Wellington staged their second late show in four days to earn a point at home to Ilfracombe Town last night (Tuesday, March 15th).

In a replica of their fightback at Millbrook on Saturday, Tim Legg’s side were trailing 2-1 before a dramatic injury-time equaliser sparked more wild celebrations.

Legg opted to start with the 11 players who had finished the game in Cornwall but they struggled to get going in a disappointing first half.

Leading scorer Liam Short put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes and then doubled their advantage eight minutes later to see them lead 2-0 at the break.

Wellington picked up their game with Legg throwing on all three subs during the second half to shake things up.

They pulled a goal back after 64 minutes when Jake Quick outpaced the Ilfracombe defence before producing a cool finish.

But it looked like being a consolation strike until three minutes into added time as Sam Towler floated over a free kick and defender Mark Cornish rose to net with a thumping header.

Ilfracombe protested and Mike Humphreys received a red card before the game restarted and the referee immediately blew for the end of the match.
