Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter League division one: Lympstone 0, Wellington Reserves 0

Our Reserves’ campaign in the Devon & Exeter League One began with a frustrating afternoon at Lympstone.

On a poor playing surface at the Marines camp, an injury to captain Mark Owen on three minutes was an early blow seeing him leave the game and being replaced by the competent Connor Noble.

The hosts, a mixture of youth and experience, were a physical outfit with the Reserves initially finding it hard to adapt as they tried to play football.

Some neat passages of play presented opportunities to debutant Amauri Ruiz and Wes Poulsom with both unable to convert.

Keeper Mitch Woodgate had to make a brave stop from the oncoming striker to keep things level before half-time

The second half started brightly for the Tangerines with Olly Nott being upended in the box but the resultant penalty by Rohan Poulsom was saved on 68 minutes.

Tom Davies received a second yellow on 72 minutes but the valiant visitors raised to the challenge of being a man down and continued to take the game to the hosts.

A succession of attacks failed at the last hurdle with the Tangerines having to travel home with a frustrating point for their efforts.

Man of the match was Dylan Groves

Back to the training ground on Wednesday 6.30pm to reset, before a trip to Topsham Town Reserves next Saturday, September 3rd.
