Toolstation League premier division: Bridgwater United 0, Wellington 0

The Tangerines ripped up the form book by ending the 100 per cent record of Bridgwater United at Fairfax Park this afternoon (Saturday, 3rd).

We went into the game after a run of five successive defeats while the hosts had won eight out of eight to top the table.

But there was never anything to choose between the sides in a match of few chances and, at the final whistle, the goalless draw was a fair result.

After their dip in form, we went back to basics with a four-man defence against a side averaging more than three goals a game.

And we got off to a bright start and home keeper Jake Viney, playing against his former club, pulled off a couple of fine reaction saves early on.

At the other end, another Wellington old boy Jack Taylor fired just wide while Viney’s opposite number, young Charlie Hawkings, produced a smart save to ensure it was goalless at the break.

The visitors had a chance to break the deadlock after 63 minutes but Nathaniel Groom’s shot went just wide while Hawkings saved with his legs to deny dangerman Taylor after 75 minutes and then thwarted the striker again in the final minute of normal time.

Both sides huffed and puffed for the winner as the referee found eight minutes of added time but the final whistle eventually blew and it was honours even.

Wellington: Charlie Hawkings, Stefan Phillips, Tom Stone, Jason Quick, Jack Bown-Porter, Jamie Nicholson, Eli Collins, Sam Towler, Miles Quick, Jake Quick, Nathaniel Groom. Substitutes: Joe Wragg and Alex Cherry (used); Hasham Ashraf, Mike Murphy and Sam Steel (not used).

Next up for the Tangerines is another trip to a side with a 100 per cent record – we travel to Shepton Mallet next Saturday.
