Our first team began life under new boss Richard Cherry as their pre-season friendlies got under way with an entertaining 3-3 draw at Bovey Tracey yesterday (Saturday, July 8th).

The manager’s first starting 11 included four new faces as well as Rohan Poulsom, leading scorer for the Reserves last season.

And it was Poulsom who opened the scoring after 11 minutes, slotting home after charging down a clearance by the home keeper.

Bovey Tracey, who play in the South West Peninsula League, equalised three minutes later after a neat interchange of passes.

Wellington regained their lead midway through the first half as Tom Burt scored with a looping header after Lloyd Tucker’s shot had come back off the bar.

But Bovey Tracey hit back to level again before the break and then took the lead for the first time after 65 minutes.

Wellington had the final say shortly afterwards as Burt was sent racing down the left and advanced on goal before shooting home to make it 3-3.

The Tangerines are in action again on Tuesday night when they travel on play Axminster Town (7.30pm) and they then make the short trip to Bishops Lydeard on Friday (7pm).
