Toolstation League premier division: Saltash United 4, Wellington 1

Wellington’s hopes of pulling off their first win of the season against Saltash United yesterday (Saturday) were dashed by three goals in ten minutes early in the second half.

The Tangerines had gone in a half-time on level terms at 1-1 and made a double substitution for the second half, bringing on Ryan Hibbert and Ryan Brereton for Flynn Smith and Josh Lukins.

However Saltash – themselves without a win this season – scored goals in the 52nd, 56th and 62nd minutes.

It knocked the stuffing out of Wellington who brought on two more players midway through the second half – Rohan Poulsom and James Cottrill for Nathan Byrne and Glen Wright.

Earlier Saltash had gone ahead in the 12th minute but Wellington were back on level terms after 22 minute when the returning Douglas Camillo slotted home after being set up by Byrne.

Wellington were fortunate not to fall behind again when Saltash hit the crossbar after 31 minutes.

Although Brereton and Poulsom went close to scoring towards the end, Wellington were unable to pull back the goals.

They now have one more away game – at Falmouth next Saturday – before they play their first home game the season against St Blazey on September 16th.

Wellington: Rhys Williams, Flynn Smith, Jack Bown-Porter, Glen Wright, Mark Cornish, Tom Stone (cpt), Miles Quick, Josh Lukins, Tom Burt, Douglas Camillo, Nathan Byrne. Substitutes: Rohan Poulsom, Ryan Brereton, Gabriel Plant, James Cottrill, Ryan Hibbert (all used).
