Somerset County Women’s League: Wellington Ladies 1, Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers Vixens 5
Our Ladies faced tough opposition in the form of top-of-the-table BVPR Vixens. Wellington started well with an early goal by Tash Hole who latched on to a great through pass from Sheldon Hancock to rifle the ball into the bottom corner.
The Vixens regrouped to equalise not long after.
Wellington stayed in the game and had more opportunities to score but the Vixens won a penalty, which they scored despite Morgen getting a hand to it.
Wellington went into half-time happy with holding the opposition to 2-1.
In the second half, tired legs meant Wellington struggled to keep up with the quick tempo set by the Vixens.
Despite this, player-of-the-match Tash came close to scoring twice, even hitting the post. On a different day, those would have gone in and it could have been a different result.
The team kept their heads up and continued to defend well but the Vixens scored three goals to put the game out of Wellington’s reach.
It finished 5-1, but the Ladies played well, both individually and as a team.
Onwards to next Sunday when they face Combe St Nicholas away.
