Somerset County Women’s League Cup: Combe St Nicholas Ladies 0, Wellington Wildcats Ladies 9

Our Wildcats Ladies comfortably progressed through to the semi-finals of their league cup yesterday (Sunday, March 2nd).

Player-of-the-match Milly Howe is pictured with Wildcats U16s coach Piers Colegate.

Tenika Goss put the visitors ahead after five minutes with a beautifully struck volley from a corner with Jess Regan doubling the lead moment later with a contender for goal of the season – a fine strike from outside of the box into the opposite top corner.

Robyn Stockman then slotted home from close range after a Combe defender had failed to clear a Regan cross.

Wildcats put the tie out of Combe’s reach before half-time when leading scorer Ebony Sellick grabbed a hat-trick for the second consecutive week, the pick of her goals being an outside of the foot finish after exceptional build-up play involving Grace Winter, Charlotte Ayers and Stockman.

Wildcats relaxed in the second half, but still managed to score three further goals. Two of them came from Milly Howe – her first in senior – while the third was an own goal.

In between, Wildcats played some very good football. There was excellent footwork from the returning Keeley Coates, while captain Grace Winter hit the crossbar with an outstanding effort.

Special mention to Combe’s goalkeeper who made some outstanding saves to keep the scoreline in single figures.

Team: Bianca Hamlyn, Grace Winter, Tenika Goss, Emily Ayers, Grayson Kennard, Robyn Stockman, Jess Regan, Charlotte Ayers, Georgia Purdy, Leah Morrell, Ebony Sellick. Substitutes: Milly Howe, Imogen Edmondston-Low, Keeley Coates (all used).
