Our Wildcats U16s completed their away fixtures with an excellent 4-0 victory over Huish Tigers at Richard Huish College on Saturday.

On a beautifully sunny morning, Wildcats had all but one of their squad available for the short journey to Taunton and came away with all three points to leapfrog Tigers in the table.

Boosted by a string of impressive performances recently, Wildcats were quickly into their rhythm and created an early chance for Lola Hamlyn, but her shot was wide of the target.

They did have the ball in the back of the net when Milly Howe slotted past the keeper, but the ‘goal’ was disallowed for offside.

Tigers had a brief spell of pressure, but were well marshalled by the Wildcats defence.

Wildcats took a deserved lead in the 19th minute, Hamlyn coolly finishing off a through pass from Katie Selley. A second followed soon after – Howe finishing well after being put clear by Selley.

Bethany Harber hit the upright as Wildcats looked to increase their lead, while a Huish defender slid in to block a Hamlyn cross as Lilliemay Critchard was waiting to tap-in.

Tigers came out strongly in the second period, but were met by some equally strong defending from Wildcats’ solid back four of Florence Self, Amy Morrow, Julia Rosicka and Freddie Heselden.

In attack, Wildcats were superb. Erin Clements and Frankie Tong linked well and both had good chances before Howe doubled her tally, a feat she would match for the senior team 24 hours later.

Wildcats were able to continually change personnel, but still maintain their dominance. Tori Smith made a couple of good clearances as Huish attacked, while her sister Kelsie battled brilliantly in Wildcats’ midfield.

Lauren Newberry pressed well, causing Huish to lose the ball in a dangerous position, but unfortunately Wildcats were unable to capitalise.
Orlaith Colegate added a fourth for Wildcats from close range following a superb passing move which started in their own half.

Late in the game Morrow made two fine interceptions, chasing back from halfway, while keeper Jasmine Simmons, a spectator for much of the match, pulled off three fine saves late in the game to keep Huish out as Wildcats ran out worthy winners.
