Our U8 boys proudly hosted a Finals Day at the excellent Court Fields 3G pitch yesterday morning (Saturday, May 17th).
The event welcomed 12 enthusiastic teams: Huish Oranges, Watchet Swords, Watchet Shields, Wellington Lions, Wellington Tigers, Wellington Jaguars, Minehead Pirates, VPR Hawks, Galmington Hawks, and Bishops Lydeard Pumas.
Representing the host club side were the Lions, Tigers, and Jaguars—who all played their hearts out in front of over 120 supportive spectators.
The touchline was buzzing with energy and encouragement, helping to inspire some brilliant football and showcase the spirit of the game at grassroots level.
It was a fabulous morning filled with great teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship.
Congratulations to Huish Oranges, who were crowned overall winners after an incredible 14-goal performance in the final round.
Minehead Pirates took home the Plate competition title, and Bishops Lydeard secured the Shield.
We extend a huge thank you to our fantastic referees: young officials Leo Healy, Stan Colgate, and Henry Ehnold-Evans, whose professionalism and fairness helped the day run smoothly.
A special shoutout to our senior referee Phil Pearson, who heroically stepped in at the last minute to ensure every match could go ahead.
The day would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers and supporters.
From delicious Tim Potter sausage rolls to a tempting spread of home-baked treats provided by our players’ families, the refreshments stall was a huge hit, fantastically managed by our committed club volunteers.
Our ‘special ops’ car park team kept things running like clockwork, helping everyone arrive and depart with ease.
A heartfelt thank you to Becky Hart (Avon) for donating a fantastic hamper for our raffle, and to our generous club sponsors, Dan Gubb Plumbing and Heating and Davey Roofing, for their ongoing support.
The teams looked fantastic in their brand-new VX3 kits, kindly sponsored by Dan Gubb —thank you, Dan!
All in all, the day was a true celebration of youth football, community spirit, and the joy of the game. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making it such a memorable event!
