U18s League Cup: Tytherington Rocks 4, Wellington 2

Wellington made the long trip to Tytherington and traffic issues saw the game kick off late at 8pm.

Wellington – who had White and Scott making their debuts along with U16 players Chivers and Brown on the bench – shocked Tytherington by going ahead in the first two minutes as Lewis Pocock was put through and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.

Tytherington came back but Wellington held out with keeper Retter dealing with everything thrown at him.

Pocock headed off the line before Wellington broke again in the 15th minute and Pocock scored his second to put Wellington 2-0 up.

Tytherington continued to put Wellington under pressure and, in the 28th minute, pulled one back direct from a corner.

Wellington had a free kick just outside the box which Pocock put over the bar but half time came with the visitors still leading 2-1.

The second half saw Tytherington equalise within the first five minutes. Chivers came on and with his first touch nearly put Wellington 3-2 but his shot went past the post.

Midway through the second half Tytherington finally took the lead for the first time and then scored a fourth at the end when keeper Retter picked up a back pass and Tyherington scored from the free kick.

A disappointing result in a tie in which Wellington had chances to get something.

Wellington: Retter, Gibson, Cossins, Manning, Hamer, White, Robins, Scott, Perry-Jones, Lee, Pocock. Substitutes: Chivers, Brown.
