U18s Floodlit League, South Division: Weymouth 5, Wellington 1
Wellington were forced to make five changes for their visit to Weymouth and, although there had been heavy rain, the pitch was in perfect condition.
Wellington, with GK Harlow and defender Nicholls making their debuts, made a positive start.
But after ten minutes, Pocock pulled up injured and was replaced by 15-year-old Noah Brown who after a nervous start got better as the game went on.
The first half saw Harlow cope with everything thrown at him. Hamer was doing well in his new position of centre forward and Wellington caused a few problems and nearly opened the scoring from a corner but couldn’t get the touch to force it in.
Just as half time approached Wellington failed to cut out a cross and Weymouth finished well at the far post.
Wellington came out for the second and, although battling hard, saw Weymouth score two goals in five minutes midway through the half.
By this time a couple of players had picked up knocks but bravely battled on and Hamer pulled one back but two further goals at the end saw the final score 5-1 to Weymouth.
A brave display saw no reward but the players enjoyed the experience of playing on one of the best pitches in the area.
Wellington squad: Sullivan Harlow, Charlie Gibson, Callum Fox Lang, Danny Nicholls, Lioyd Manning, Luke Aldwin, Ben Scott, Robbie Broomhead, Callum Hamer, Lewis Pocock, Sam Poole, Noah Brown
There is a quick return fixture as Wellington entertain Weymouth at the Playing Field this Tuesday (7.30) and, the following Tuesday, they are away to Chard.
