Our ladies’ season opener with Bishops Lydeard Ladies Development may have ended goalless, but it did not lack quality or drama.
After a fairly cagey first-half, chances fell regularly to Lydeard attackers after the break yet Welly produced a superb defensive performance, led magnificently by keeper Emma Mingo, who made several eye-catching saves and a crucial stop on the line in the final minutes.
Both teams wilted in the scorching September sunshine in the dying seconds, but a point will feel like a win against such hot favourites in Lydeard, and was a cracking start to Welly’s season.
