Somerset County Women’s League: Porlock 2, Wellington 8

Our Ladies earned their first win of the season by thrashing Porlock.

Wellington stunned their hosts from the first whistle, scoring five times in a scintillating opening 20 minutes.

Clearly feeding off confidence built from previous results, the midfield passed the ball freely and used the pace of youngster Leah Morrell (hat-trick) to get in behind the Porlock defence with almost every attack.

Although Porlock fought bravely after half-time to reduce the deficit to 6-2, impressive 17-year-old Jess Regan put the game to bed with a stunning strike from 25 yards out.

The other scorers were Ebony Sellick (two), Katy Hussey and Sheldon Hancock with a well-placed free-kick.

Special mention should also go to 18-year-old Maddie Brooker, who led the defensive line well, and was as solid as ever.

Wellington move up to fourth in the table, with five points from three games, although tougher tests are sure to come.
