Taunton Saturday League division one: North Curry 2, Wellington A 1
Our A team were desperately unlucky to leave North Curry empty-handed after a much-improved performance.
Despite heavy rain leading up to the game, North Curry’s well looked after pitch ensured the game was played. Some early good pressure for Wellington was marred by a contentious decision. What seemed to be a foul outside the box was ruled inside by the referee and a penalty was awarded to North Curry. The kick was coolly finished meaning Wellington were one-nil down.
More good pressure followed from the visitors with Ash Saunders having a great chance which was closed down. Wellington kept pushing for the equaliser but a well worked and well finished counter-attack by North Curry saw them double their lead.
Wellington did have the ball in the net shortly afterwards after a great through ball saw Jordan Sellick running in on goal and slot past the onrushing goalkeeper. The second contentious decision then ruled Sellick to be offside so the ‘goal’ was disallowed. More great chances followed for Wellington without finding the net.
The second half was one-way traffic. Some great football from everybody in a tangerine shirt saw chance after chance go begging. The goal finally came from a throw-in which seemed to bounce through a huddle of players and into the net.
The final 20 minutes saw Wellington lay siege on the North Curry goal with chances falling to Connor Porter, Tom Scarlett, Sellick and Luke O’Hara but all not finding the target.
Wellington bossed the game, had the better possession, created numerous clearcut chances but again came away with nothing.
