Somerset County Women’s League: Wellington Ladies 1, Bishops Lydeard Ladies Development 3

It was a tough and unlucky afternoon for our Ladies on the first game back since the restart.

Debuts from Morgen Tuckett and coach Anthony Trimm brought some new faces to the team on and off the pitch. Morgen had her first match playing on the wing and no doubt she will continue to be a great addition to the team.

A well-executed volley broke the deadlock late in the first half, giving the visitors the lead, but our Ladies came right back and kept the pressure on until half-time.

Early on in the second half, it was clear that this was not going to be easy for either side, with both teams challenging the opposing goalkeeper.

Wellington were inches away from getting their first goal as the ball was gathered on the line by the Bishops Lydeard keeper, however this, and another opportunity being disallowed from an unfortunate offside call, gave our Ladies the boost they needed to find a goal.

A long-range shot was dropped by the visiting keeper, and Player-of-the-Match, Marie Barrow, made sure they were punished for the mistake, burying it to make the scoreline 3-1.

Emma Mingo deserves a special mention for her excellent work in goal before coming out into the defensive line to assist the team to get forward and secure their first goal.

The Ladies will look to build from this defeat and focus on getting their form back in the next game.
