Somerset County Women’s League:  Ash Rangers 3, Wellington 2

Our Ladies’ first away fixture of the season saw them face off against newly-relegated Ash Rangers Ladies in another tough 9 v 9 match.

New signing Chantelle Bowle made her debut and first start for the club.

From the whistle, Ash Rangers put on the pressure, scoring their first just after ten minutes from a scooping attempt which caught goalkeeper Hannah Worth off her line. Wellington pushed back the pressure and equalised just before half-time, Tash Hole taking one of their few chances of the day.

After the break, Ash Rangers did not give Wellington any breathing room and scored twice in quick succession early in the second half – one from a bending shot from the corner flag and the other from a second long-range attempt.

Wellington kept their heads up after going 3-1 down and kept knocking on the door. Then Jess Regan picked up the ball from around 25 yards out and excellently caught the home side goalkeeper off her line, almost identically to the Ash Rangers goal in the first half.

Wellington were unfortunate to not grab the equaliser as time seemed to run out just as the Ladies were gaining momentum in the game.

Player of the Match was awarded to Lauren Smith for her efforts in the defensive three and her great workrate which helped Wellington grab their first goal.

With both Jess and Tash scoring yet again we wouldn’t be surprised if this motivated side have a few contenders for the league’s Golden Boot.

Wellington’s next match on October 3rd will be back at home against Combe St Nicholas.
